Come to Llandudno Junction to discuss the Welsh language
18/09/2011
The Chair of the Welsh Language Board is inviting members of the public to attend a Board meeting at Conwy Business Centre, Llandudno Junction, on 23 September 2011.
Meri Huws said:
"It gives me great pleasure to welcome the Chair of the Coleg (Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol), Professor Merfyn Jones, to the Board meeting. I look forward to hear how the founders of the Coleg dealt with all the challenges, how they achieved the goal of launching the Coleg this month, and how they will proceed to develop the Coleg and raise its profile over the next few years."
Board members will also welcome Bet Huws, the Peblig Language Broker, to the meeting. The purpose of the language broker scheme is to support people living in the Peblig area of Caernarfon to consider their ability to speak Welsh as an important skill when applying for jobs. It has been exactly two years since Bet Huws started in the job, and she will talk to Board members about her work and how she has set out to increase local people’s confidence in their Welsh.
Board officers will also give a presentation on their work in terms of facilitating bilingual workplaces. Lowri Hughes of Bangor University and Ray Hughes on behalf of the Countryside Council for Wales and Isle of Anglesey County Council will talk about the practical implications of the Board's work in increasing the use of Welsh in the workplace.
Meri Huws added:
"I invite anyone who has an interest in the Welsh language to attend this meeting and listen to the presentations. There will an opportunity to ask questions to Board members at the end of the session and share ideas and comments with us."
The meeting takes place between 10:00am and 1:00pm on Friday 23 September 2011. Meeting papers can be found on the Board’s website www.byig-wlb.org.uk.
