In their next open meeting, held at the National Library in Aberystwyth on 4 February 2011, members of the Welsh Language Board will discuss developments in Welsh-medium education, the use of Welsh in Local Government and the latest from the translation profession.
Chair of the Board, Meri Huws, said:
"Some eighteen months or so have passed since the Government published its Welsh-medium Education Strategy. It is timely, therefore, that a Director from the Government’s Education and Skills Department is coming to talk to us about how the Strategy is being implemented, as well as talking about the Welsh language in education and skills more widely.
"I also look forward to hearing some of the Board staff talking about elements of their work. There will be an opportunity to look at how different local authorities across Wales carry out the commitments of their language schemes, and how the translation forum, organised by the Welsh Language Board, facilitate discussion and the sharing of good practice between translators."
At the beginning of the meeting, the Library's Librarian, Andrew Green, will give a presentation about the Library.
Meri Huws added:
“The Library is of great significance to us, not only because of its status and the fact that the nation's greatest treasures are kept and displayed there, the Library is also a major employer in Ceredigion with much of the staff working through the medium of Welsh."
The public are invited to attend the meeting. It will be held between 10:00 and 13:00.
