Heritage Minister, Alun Ffred Jones, has announced the re-appointment of the chair and seven members of the Welsh Language Board.
They will serve until the Board is replaced by the new office of the Welsh Language Commissioner, which is set out in the new proposed Welsh Language Measure.
Chair Meri Huws will be joined by Board members Marc Phillips, Elin Wyn, Catherine Rees, Gwyneth Morus Jones, Nick Bennett, Huw Jones and Owen Evans.
Alun Ffred Jones said:
“I am pleased to be able to announce these re-appointments to the Welsh Language Board. Their experience will be valuable during this important time of change in the development of the Welsh language.”
Meri Huws added:
“I am pleased to be appointed to another term as Chair of the Board. I’m sure I speak on behalf of the other members when I say that we are all looking forward to contributing to the discussions around the Measure and to share our ideas about the development of the language during this exciting time ahead.
“The legislative situation will generate the most attention in the media over the next few months, as you would expect, but the Board’s staff will continue in their day to day work of helping organisations in every sector to increase the use and provision of Welsh, in addition to the all important work of supporting Welsh language activity in our communities.
“I wish to thank three former members of the Board who recently finished their terms, Professor Colin Williams, Rhiannon Walters and Dr Arun Midha. Over the years, the expertise of all three has been truly valuable to us as a Board, and I wish them all the best for the future.”
