Dan y Cownter joins the digital download age

08/04/2008

Dan y Cownter joins the digital download age :

Dan y Cownter 3 available online soon –

Handpicked tracks by Radio One’s Huw Stephens

Wales-based labels, musicians and music publishers are urged to submit Welsh language tracks to Welsh Music Foundation for a chance to be amongst the songs included in Dan y Cownter 3.

Following the overwhelming popularity of Dan y Cownter (Under the Counter) and Dan y Cownter 2 CDs - a brand new website will soon be launched for the third edition in the series: “Dan Y Cownter 3”.

Dan y Cownter is an initiative by the WMF, funded by the Welsh Language Board, featuring the best and latest music from Wales, and distributed for free in order to promote Welsh language music.

The website will offer ten Welsh language tracks available for free download and, in a further digital move, the 16 page booklet that was included with its predecessors will also be hosted on the website, packed with information detailing businesses and organisations working within the Welsh music scene including record labels, festivals, regular gigs, websites and fanzines.

Huw Stephens, DJ from Radio Cymru’s C2 shows and Radio 1 will help to draw up a shortlist and youth groups from Wales will then choose which tracks to include on the website.

Huw said: “I’m pleased that Dan y Cownter is continuing with the good work of promoting Welsh language music – straight to your MP3 player or ipod this time!”

This will be a golden chance to hear some of the best new Welsh-language Music – via the latest technology.  The aim is to increase the use of Welsh-language Music on the web, as well as having the latest information about the Welsh language music industry on the web, in one place.

The website will be launched on the Welsh Language Board’s stand at the Urdd Eisteddfod, Conwy, at the end of May 2008.

For a chance to be amongst the songs included, labels, publishers and musicians must submit their tracks on CD format only to:
