Welsh Technology

Welsh computerTechnology in the Welsh language has evolved a lot recently, and you can do many things in Welsh. Here are some ideas on how you can use the language on your computer, and browse the web in Welsh.

Use Welsh on your computer:

1. Microsoft Welsh Language Interface Packs - click on the software you use and download the relevant package here for free:

2. The Bilingual Interface Language Control Centre - ideal if you need to switch between Welsh and English, and suitable for the bilingual workplace and home. You can choose your preferred language, share the same machine between people who do not speak Welsh and there are several tutorials available. It also gives you Welsh web pages automatically when available. Available free for Windows XP and Windows Vista (or Windows 7)

3. Others - a bilingual version of OpenOffice

4. For more information, visit Meddal, or subscribe to Metastwnsh blog, a blog that talks about new Welsh technology

• Cysill - a program that checks spelling and grammar of Welsh
• Cysgeir - Welsh / English dictionary

Suitable for PC and free for Mac users.

Translation Software
You can translate text using Google Translate. While this is convenient, Google Translate does not provide a perfect translation as a translator. You should check the translation with someone who can speak Welsh fluently, to avoid mistakes.
