Welsh Language Board's response to announcement of future structures to promote the use of Welsh
In response to the Minister for Heritage’s statement regarding the future arrangements for promoting the use of Welsh, Chair of the Welsh Language Board, Meri Huws, said:
"I welcome the news that a Welsh Language Commissioner’s office is to established, and I look forward to see Commissioner being a strong advocate on behalf of Welsh speakers.
"There is important work ahead for the new Welsh Language Unit within the Government as well, to continue with the creative and innovative work of promoting the language – work which has gained the Board praise and recognition by other language communities across the world for the past fifteen years.
"What we must ensure now is that the transfer of the Board’s functions to the new structures takes place as smoothly as possible, for the benefit of the staff and also to ensure that the Welsh language agenda will not fall off the radar in the meantime, and that the language continues to progress and flourish."
