Revised MOD Welsh Language Scheme

The public consultation on the MOD’s revised Welsh Language Scheme closed on 10 October. A formal response to comments received will be posted on our corporate internet site shortly.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has been working closely with the Welsh Language Board to revise the MOD’s Welsh Language Scheme. It will be available in Welsh and English at the links below for a 12 week period of public consultation. The aim of this consultation is to ascertain views representative of both Welsh-speaking and other members of the public who may be affected by the scheme.

The WLB fully endorsed the scheme in June 1999 and we are now asking for your comments on this revised version.

The MOD has adopted the principle that in the conduct of its business with the public in Wales, it will treat the English and Welsh languages on a basis of equality.

This Scheme sets out how the MOD will give effect to that principle. The Scheme applies equally to the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Ministry of Defence Headquarters and its agencies and trading funds.

In drawing up the measures set out in the Scheme, the Department has taken account of what is appropriate in the circumstances and reasonably practicable.

Any comments on the Scheme should be submitted using the feedback form - see Related Page link>>>
