The aim of the Management Team is to set a direction for the organisation's work, maintain an overview on the Board’s work as a whole, and shape the future work programme based on Board members decisions.
The Management Team meets up to 20 times a year.
Here are some of the Management Team’s responsibilities:
- Setting direction and maintaining a strategic overview for the Board’s work
- Assess performance and identify areas of priority / improvement
- Agree thematic strategies
- Ensure that the general policies and management personnel, IT and appropriate funding are in place and ensure the best value for public money
The Chief Executive is personally responsible for appropriate stewardship and expenditure of public money, and for day to day operations and management of the Board.
Meirion Prys Jones, Chief Executive

Born in Bridgend, Meirion was educated at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, Wrexham, and the University of Wales, Bangor, where he graduated in Welsh Language and Literature. He went on to complete a PGCE at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, winning distinction in teaching, and his special subjects were Welsh as first language and second language.
Meirion was head of Welsh at Ysgol Castell Alun High and Ysgol Glan Clwyd, before moving to work in West Glamorgan County Council as an Education Advisor for Welsh and Head of Welsh Advisory Service. Since 1993, Meirion has been a Registered Inspector of Schools.
He was appointed Chief Officer of the Education and Training Department at the Welsh Language Board in 1994, Leader of the Language Planning Team in 2001, and Deputy Chief Executive of the Board in 2003.
In April 2004 Meirion became Chief Executive of the Board.
