The Board in one of the summer showsThe Welsh Language Board is a statutory body funded by the Welsh Assembly Government. It was established in December 1993 as part of the Welsh Language Act 1993. Its main function is to promote and facilitate the use of the Welsh language.

AIM - To work for the welfare and future of the Welsh language

Our vision is to see:

  1. A fully bilingual Wales where Welsh and English language are treated equally
  2. An increase in the number of people who choose to use Welsh in every part of their lives
  3. The people of Wales continuing to be proud and confident in using the Welsh language
  4. Parents transferring the Welsh language and/or encouraging their children to use Welsh
  5. It easier for learners to learn Welsh
  6. The Board as an innovative organisation which continues to lead the way in language planning both in Wales and worldwide, basing its activities on evidence

We also work in partnership with public sector bodies, private businesses and third sector organisations (voluntary bodies), and offer advice and resources to help service providers to give their customers a natural language choice.
