Rhodri Williams welcomed the new appointments to the Welsh Language Board, announced today by Tom Middlehurst, Cabinet Secretary responsible for the Welsh language.
“The professional and personal backgrounds of the new members encompass a wide range of fields – from business to education and from law to strategic planning. We also have two international experts on bilingualism and language planning amongst the members. I am sure that their wealth of experience will enable us to take the Board’s vision forward.” said Rhodri Williams.
Mr Williams also expressed his appreciation of the members at the end of their term of office, thanking them for their work. He said:
“The Board’s document, The Welsh Language: A Vision and Mission for 2000-2005, published last year, created a firm foundation for our work in the future. I am very grateful to former Board members for their commitment and work over the past few years. Transferring the vision to the new Board is something they can all take pride in.”
The new members are:
Gwyn Bartley, Sue Camper, Bethan Guilfoyle, Gwawr Huws, Dr. Medwin Hughes, Dr. Arun Midha, Rhiannon Walters and Professor Colin Williams. Professor Colin Baker and Jeffrey Morgan have been re-appointed to the Board for a second term.
